UK Meteor Radar Project

The UK Meteor Radar is a citizen science project that has created a system to study meteors and other ionising events in the ionosphere above the UK. The system has been designed and built by volunteers with financial support from the Radio Society of Great Britain and the British Astronomical Association. The system consists of a transmitter, located near Mansfield, which illuminates a region of the ionosphere at an altitude of 80 to 100km with a diameter of more than 400km. A network of receivers monitor the echoes from ionising events, record these and provide a live display. The recorded data are available for research purposes.
